I am rooting hard for you and the rest of our dear western NC. A lot of heartbreaks for that whole area, during the storm and the aftermath - far too many. Sending love to you and your family and neighbors. Share any non-profits we can support - we’ve supported one fundraiser by Blue Ridge Mountains Travel Guide, and are following Matt Van Swol’s efforts to pressure FEMA and our state representatives, to all do the right thing. ❤️

Thank you, Shannon. It will be an incredibly long road to recovery, I think, though I don’t want that to discourage people from coming to visit. For an area dependent on visitors, we need people more than ever. I would always recommend giving to The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina above giving directly to any single nonprofit. They are set up to receive and handle a large number of donations and they have committees of community members from across the mountains who review and approve grants. And they also have the process of accountability in place to ensure donations are being used to their best purposes. You can find them at www.cfwnc.org (disclosure: I worked there for about 6 months about 15 years ago).
